“I feel the content of this course has been very thorough in highlighting the difficulties that LGBTQ+ children and young people can and often do face. It has built on my prior knowledge and made me question and analyse past and current practices.”

About the course

This CPD accredited course will provide you with the knowledge, tools and confidence to support LGBTQ+ children and young people in your school or college as well as to prevent and tackle anti-LGBTQ+ bullying and language (for example, homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying). The content you see is tailored to your nation and setting type. Use the dropdown menu at the start of this page to choose your nation, setting type and whether you’d like to learn in English or Welsh.

Evidence-based research

The University of Birmingham used the Supporting LGBTQ+ Children and Young People module in a randomised control trial to test its effectiveness in training children’s social workers. Results showed that the module is effective at increasing participants’ LGBTQ+ knowledge and reducing their heteronormative attitudes and beliefs.

After completing the module, 99.5% of participants thought they were better able to support LGBTQ+ young people. Read the report.

Which version of the course do I need?

If you work in a school, college or education setting, choose 'School or college or education setting' from the dropdown list. If you work with children and/or young people in another context, choose 'Children and young people's services'.
